Fr. Francis Dyer, OP
Fr. Francis Xavier Dyer, OP, 81, died July 26, 2024. He was born to Francis and Janann Dyer on August 16, 1942, in Evergreen Park, IL. He attended grammar school at St. Clara in Chicago and St. Eulalia in Maywood. He received his diploma from Fenwick High School in Oak Park in 1960.
He began undergraduate studies at Loras College in Dubuque, IA, before entering the Dominican Order on August 30, 1962. He professed first vows on August 31, 1963, and began studies for the priesthood at the Dominican House of Studies in River Forest and at St. Rose Priory in Dubuque, IA. In the summers from 1966-1968, he completed an MBA at Notre Dame University, South Bend, IN. He was ordained on May 24, 1969, in Dubuque.
Fr. Dyer’s administrative skills were a tremendous asset to the Dominicans. He served as the business manager for Aquinas Institute of Theology in Dubuque from 1969 until 1973 before overseeing the finances as treasurer of the Western Dominican Province in Oakland, CA until 1975 and then the Central Dominican Province in Chicago until 1984. From 1987 until 2016, he worked at Christian Brothers Religious Medical Programs in Romeoville as an assistant manager and manager. In 2020, he went on Limited Service at St. Pius V Priory where he continued to manage the house finances.
Fr. Dyer is survived by his brother, James Dyer. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius V Parish, 1901 S. Ashland Ave., Chicago preceded by Office of the Dead at 10:30 a.m. Interment at All Saints Cemetery. Memorial Donations to the Dominican Friars, 1910 S.
