Pope Francis Announces Canonization of Dominican Saint
On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, during his general audience in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Francis announced the canonization of Pier Giorgio Frassati. A member of the Dominican Laity, Frassati will be canonized during the Jubilee of Youth on July 28–August 3, 2025.
Pier Giorgio Frassati (1901-25), an Italian Catholic activist and Third Order Dominican, championed social justice through his faith. Known for his cheerful spirit and compassion, he joined organizations such as Catholic Action and the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, dedicating his life to serving the poor and vulnerable in his hometown of Turin.
A spirited mountaineer, swimmer, and athlete, Frassati embraced adventure alongside a close-knit group of friends who shared his values. From a young age, he used his privileged position to uplift the sick and impoverished, leaving a lasting legacy of selfless service and unwavering kindness.
