Office for Mission Advancement
A friend of the Dominican Shrine of St. Jude recently told us he was dying. His faith was enormous. Father Andrew Carl Wisdom, O.P., visited him, anointed him, and explored his wonderful life. Shortly thereafter, our friend went home to God.
Fr. Luke Barder, O.P., Parochial Vicar at St. Dominic Parish in Denver, has encountered much during his 15 months in active ministry, from a bustling parish Oktoberfest to work on a fundraising campaign to a new parish website.
None of this Dominican impact happens without the generosity of prayer and resources from others. Visit www.opcentral.org to learn more.
Since 1216, Dominicans have been called to mendicancy, to completely depend upon others. Interdependency welcomes asking for help. Neither odd penance nor begging, and certainly no call for attention, Dominican mendicancy reflects an intentional response to Jesus’ petition, “Do not take gold or silver or copper for your belts; no sack for the journey, or a second tunic, or sandals, or walking stick. The laborer deserves his keep.” MT 10:9-10
The 1216 Annual Fund plays out a Gospel imperative and celebrates a unique milestone.
Friars of the Central Province serve throughout the Midwest, bringing Good News. Before beginning their service, they study for 6 or more years. Following solemn vows, Friars preach on campuses, in classrooms, from scattered pulpits, at our Shrine of St. Jude, on university campuses and in cities. Some ministries are rich in faith yet severely under-resourced. When, for a variety of reasons, friars can no longer serve, we care for them.
As they do these things, friars turn to you for help to partner with them. “And how can they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach? And how can people preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring [the] good news!’” Romans 10: 14-15
Friars of the Central Province call on you, our friends and partners, for financial support to educate young friars, to minister where local resources are scarce, and to care for their own. Friars look to friends, family, and others for help. They all write to people they know and friends they have yet to meet, inviting all to participate in their ministries through financial support.
Gifts received are used where needed; “To each according to his need.” This Province annually invests well over $1 million to meet these essential needs and can only do so with your help.
Your gift to this 1216 Annual Fund assures an unbroken Dominican legacy of service and commitment will continue.
If you’ve heard from a friar asking for your help or have yet to hear, please make a gift today. Send your check, made payable to the Dominican Friars, Central Province, to 1910 S. We cannot THANK YOU enough.
