Born July 14, 1930, in Missouri Valley, Iowa, Fr. O’Riley studied at Loras College in Dubuque before entering the Dominican Order in 1951. He made his profession of vows in 1952 and was ordained a priest on May 24, 1958, in Dubuque, Iowa. A one-time editor of the Dominican printing house, Priory Press, he worked as a free-lance writer, a chaplain to Dominican nuns, and a preacher of retreats and missions, especially to cloistered religious sisters. It was on one such retreat that he passed away peacefully on March 14th.
Fr. O’Riley was the son of the late Hector Anthony and Myrtle Iva (nee Spencer) O’Riley. He had two brothers, the late Richard and David O’Riley and is survived by cousins and remembered by close friends. Reception of the body and celebration of Mass of Christian Burial took place at Saint Pius V Church, Chicago, Illinois on Wednesday, March 19th .
