Rev. John Charles Fabian, O.P. died on October 29, 2014 in San Diego, California. Father John was born on February 11, 1932 in Mingo Junction, Ohio to Michael and Anna (Krizan) Fabian. He made his religious profession as a Dominican Friar on August 31, 1953 and was ordained to the priesthood on May 23, 1959.
He attended elementary school at St. Agnes in Mingo Junction, Ohio and graduated from Catholic Central High School in Steubenville, Ohio in 1950. He studied for the priesthood with the Dominicans at Aquinas Institute in Dubuque, Iowa.
As a priest, he served from 1960-72 as a high school Theology and Latin teacher at Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Illinois and Bishop Lynch High School in Dallas, Texas. He also was an associate pastor in various parishes and Catholic campus ministry centers for several years. In 1984 he was commissioned as lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and served as a chaplain for the Navy for over twenty years.
Father Fabian is survived by four siblings, Rev. Cyril Andrew Fabian, O.P., Winona, Minnesota, Peter (Betty) Fabian, Mingo Junction, Ohio, Kathryn Taggart, Steubenville, Ohio, and Margaret Everett, La Crescenta, California as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Fr. Fabian is preceded in death by his parents as well as the following siblings: Joseph (Eleanor) Fabian, Necedah, WI, Mary (Patsy) Standardi, Weirton WV, Agnes (Alfred) Buccalo, Follansbee WV, Sister Elizabeth Constantine Fabian, Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, Manitowoc, WI, Helen (Joseph) Adametz, Columbus OH, Adam and Anna Fabian (infants), and brothers-in-law Benjamin Taggart and Richard Everett.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Pius V Priory on Saturday, November 22, 2014 with interment at All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines, Illinois. Memorial Donations to the Dominicans, Society for Vocational Support, 1910 S. Ashland Ave, Chicago, IL, 60608 are greatly appreciated.
