Br. Kevin W. Carroll, O.P. died peacefully on February 19, 2017 in Chicago at the age of 84. Br. Carroll was a Dominican Friar of the Province of St. Albert the Great. Born William Earnest Carroll on August 6, 1932 in Chicago to Patrick & Josephine (Merrick) Carroll. He attended St. Kevin’s Grammar School and St. Francis de Sales High School graduating in 1950.
In March 1951, Br. Carroll entered the Dominican Order and received the habit at St. Thomas Aquinas Priory in River Forest and given the religious name, Kevin. One year later, he professed simple vows there on March 7, 1952.
As a cooperator brother, Br. Carroll’s first assignment was at St. Pius V Priory in Chicago. From there he served as a missionary in Bolivia for several years. He retuned to Chicago and was youth minister at St. Pius. In 1976 he received a Masters Degree in Religious Education from the Institute for Pastoral Studies at Loyola University. He spent 18 years in Denver as a hospital chaplain as well as assistance novice master. He then returned to the missions in Honduras for the next six years.
For the last part of his active ministry he worked at the Dominican Conference Center, then in parish pastoral ministry in Minneapolis and Chicago. At the time of his death, he was assigned to St. Pius V Priory in Chicago and was receiving care at Presence Resurrection Life Nursing and Rehab Center.
Besides his Dominican Community, Br. Carroll is survived by his sister-in-law, Rose Carroll as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Patrick and Barry Carroll. Services were held at St. Pius V Church in Chicago on Wednesday, February 22. For info 773-736-3833 or visit Br.
