Father Charles Bouchard, O.P, Prior Provincial of the Dominican province of St. Albert the Great., has announced that he has asked Father Richard Peddicord, O.P., most recently President of Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis, to assume the presidency of Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Illinois.
Father Peddicord, President of Aquinas Institute of Theology since 2008 and Professor of Moral Theology there since 1994, assumed his new responsibilities at Fenwick July 1. While announcing this appointment, Father Bouchard noted the Dominican Province of St. Albert the Great and Aquinas Institute’s Board of Trustees remain dedicated to the importance of Aquinas as a Dominican apostolate and ministry of the Province, and have already begun a careful search for a new president.
Fenwick High School, a co-ed, Dominican Catholic college preparatory school, is a ministry of the Dominican Province of St. Albert the Great serving over 1200 students from communities across Chicago and its western suburbs. The school opened in 1929 and since then its graduates have distinguished themselves with exception in business, law, medicine, education, and service to the Church, among many other things. Included among these 15,000 + women and men are an astronaut, Pulitzer Prize winning authors, a Heisman Trophy winner, and leaders in government. By assuming the presidency, Fr. Peddicord will continue the school’s distinctive Catholic Dominican identity and tradition of academic excellence.
Fr. Peddicord completed both a Master of Arts in Theology and a Master of Divinity degree from Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis. In addition, Fr. Peddicord obtained the S.T.L., Ph.D., and S.T.D. from St. Paul University, Ottawa, Canada.
“I began my teaching ministry at Fenwick High School. Newly ordained, I taught theology to freshmen and juniors. I also helped out in the language department by regularly teaching a section of French. The curriculum for the juniors called for a focus on the Church’s moral tradition; I found myself with an entire year to delve into practically every conceivable moral issue and dilemma! The experience was invigorating and ultimately set the stage for my going to Ottawa to do a doctorate in moral theology. To this day, reflection on the challenges of Christian discipleship is the most significant aspect of my teaching and learning.”
Aquinas Institute of Theology is a St. Louis-based Roman Catholic graduate school of theology and ministry of the Province of St. Albert the Great. Offering both residential and on-line degree programs, Aquinas Institute of Theology is the only Catholic institution in the world to offer a Doctor of Ministry degree in preaching.
